Luxury beachfront house in Tangier, Morocco

Built some 30 years ago for the family of Hollywood legend Tony Curtis, the property has hosted a number of famous guests including the leading lady of Sunset Boulevard, Patti Lu Pone. 

Acquired by its current owners - the winners of Britain's Best Home - in 2008, the house has recently undergone extensive renovations and remodelling to create an exotic and luxurious North African retreat.

 Inside

• Style: A contemporary Moroccan and Art Deco interior is decked out in sumptuous fabrics, traditional wooden furnishings and tiled floors.
• Bedrooms and Bathrooms: All 4 double bedrooms are adorned in Moroccan furnishings and fabrics and each has an en suite bathroom. 2 bedrooms have balconies overlooking the pool and the ground-floor bedroom opens up to the poolside terrace.
• For relaxation: Lap up the rays on the private poolside terrace or sink into a sofa in the cool lounge area.
• For recreation: Take a dip in the pool, stroll along the beach, play the grand piano whilst enjoying an ocean view, or chill out and watch a DVD.
• Practicalities: A housekeeper will take care of laundry, cleaning, dish washing and changing linen/towels etc. (included in rental price)

Outside

The beautifully manicured Mediterranean-style plot nudges the golden beach front. An acre of private, secure gardens includes a swimming pool and sun terrace with a charcoal BBQ, sun loungers, comfy seating and al fresco dining furniture.

Food and wine

• DIY:  Arrive to a welcome pack of local delicacies and breakfast supplies. The contemporary European kitchen is fully equipped with an American-style fridge/freezer, oven and hob.
• In-house cuisine: Home-cooked meals (breakfasts, dinners and special occasion banquets) are available by arrangement with the owners. 
• Eating out: The property is 5 minutes' from the world-renowned Le Mirage Hotel for spectacular cliff-top dining. Other notable eateries in the area include Hotel Nord-Pinus or L'Ocean for French cuisine, El Minza Hotel in the medina and a selection of restaurants in the Italian quarter of Tangier.
